Description |
Original draft of Ralph T. Whitelaw's 1951 book "Virginia's Eastern Shore." The book is a two volume set about the historic houses of Accomack and Northampton Counties and discusses: when and where they were built, transfers in ownership, descriptions of their exterior and interior, and includes photos. Also includes a draft of the book's preface and a general history of the Eastern Shore of Virginia up to 1930. The preface explains how the book is formatted, information Whitelaw thought to include for each house and tract of land, and decisions he made when writing. As a draft, this version of the book includes several handwritten notes and edits made by Whitelaw during the writing process. It may also be missing sections that are in the published version of the book. See the link for a copy of this draft: |
