TRANSCRIPTION: January 1, 1801 Received [torn paper] Executor of Polly Marshall decd. the sum of [torn] pounds in full for a legacy left me by said Polly & the further sum of two pounds ten shillings in full for keeping Hannah an old negro woman belonging to the aforesaid estate Test Josiah Doughty Negro Holloway HER mark ON REVERSE: Receipts Negro Holloway for keeping Hannah for his legacy NOTE: Possibly missing from the top right section of this document is that John Shepherd Ker was the executor of Polly Marshall's will. This means he was involved with this transaction of placing Hannah in the care of Holloway. |
