Edmund Read was born in Accomack County in 1758. At the age of 16 he joined the Accomack County Militia and was a Patriot during the Revolutionary War. He was present at two skirmishes with the British on the Shore at Pungoteague and Parramore's Landing. After the war he became an officer in the militia. |
