William Seymour was borin in Accomack County in 1773. He lived most of his life in Onancock and had the home Wesley. In 1788 Seymour hosted the Methodist preachers Francis Ashbury and Richard Whatcoat and was converted. He began to preach in Onancock as the town's first Methodist preacher. He held church at his home Wesley until his death. He preached on Tangier Island and other parts of the Shore with William Lee. Seymour also operated a mercantile business with his brother-in-law John S. Ker known as Seymour & Co. and Seymour & Ker. |
