Ralph Whitelaw was born in St. Louis, MO in 1880. After graduating from Amherst College in 1902, he went into business with his father. He served in the U.S. Army during World War I in France. In 1922 he retired and he and his wife, Paula Oertel, moved to the Eastern Shore and lived in the "Warwick" home in Quinby, VA. He and Anne Floyd Upshur researched Accomack and Northampton County historic houses for a two volume book titled "Virginia's Eastern Shore." The book was published in 1951 a year after Whitelaw's death. |
