"Housekeeper's Companion," was the first Eastern Shore of Virginia cookbook. The book is composed of recipes from the Gunter family with contributions by several women of the Shore. Signed in front cover "Eva R. Fitchette Sea View, Va. Nov. 25, 1915." Includes handwritten recipes in front and back pages. Includes a handwritten recipe for Red Cross War Cakes, a recipe promoted by the Red Cross during World War I. The cakes could be sent overseas to soldiers. |
