Description |
"Chatham," BW. Brick building, front porch has columns. Outside window shutters. White picket fence. Attached wood frame stucture to left side of building. Written on back: "Chatham," built in 1790 by General John West, a cousin of the Earl of Chatham passed into the hands of the Pitt and Downing familes and is now owned by the Thomas Family. The interior woodwork and fine constructure here are remarkable. It is at the Head of Church Neck in Northampton County, V., in a splendid grove of great oaks, cedar, sycamore and ashes. The original kitchen wing with the slave quarters is a ruin. |
