Description |
The Ker family sampler. Made by Elizabeth Corbin Ker (born April 17, 1803), daughter of John Shepherd Ker and Agnes Drummond Corbin Ker, builders of Ker Place in Onancock, VA. Sampler design has a border of leaves, grape bunches and tendrils and a central design of a basket with dogwood and other flowers and grape bumches and tendrils to either side. The sampler was never finished. Signed "N." Across the top: the Alphabet uppercase followed by numbers 1-10, in two rows, Two sample borders, the Alphabet in lowercase in one row, and the following text: "Elizabeth C. Ker Daughter of John S. Ker and Agnes D. Ker was born April the 17 1803 John S Ker departed this life 1806 Aged Years Agnes D Ker departed this life 1814 aged 38 Years Edward H Ker son of John S Ker and Agnes D Ker was born August 20 1797" |
