Description |
1862 charcoal drawing or mezzotint of "The Village Blacksmith" painting by John Frederick Herring. Shows a blacksmith with white horse. The mezzotint was done by Louis Magroon Rogers-according to a descendant of the Henry Battaile family into which the his sister had married. The mezzotint was probably made at Snugley, Rogers' home near Boggs Wharf. Louis Rogers had planned to study art in Italy, but wounded in the Siege of Petersburg during the Civil War, he died about a month later. |
