Ellen Floyd was born in Northampton County to Samuel L. & Mary R. Floyd. By 1842 after the death of her mother, Ellen was an orphan at the age of seven. She was adopted by Dr. John Ker, the administrator of Mary's estate. Although Ker was her guardian, she lived with Mary's half-brother, Tully Robinson Wise IV. She attended M. A. Belden's school. Ker paid for her board with the Wise's and her tuition for school before he passed away in 1847. Ker's administrator and oldest son, George Ker, became her guardian in 1847. In 1850 she was attending school in Baltimore, MD. In 1853 she married Leonard Jarvis Nottingham in Northampton County. |
