Milton T. Hickman was born in Painter. After graduating from UVa he went into business with his father as a lawyer and at A. T. Hickman Lumber Company, Inc. He was the commissioner of the Chesapeake Bay Ferry Commission which oversaw the development of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel. He was appointed the head of the Virginia Fisheries Commission in 1959. He held positions with several Shore organizations including the ESVA Chamber of Commerce, Accomack County School Board, and Onancock Rotary Club. |
