Notes |
John Ker was the son of Rev. George & Sarah Ker. He married Mary Jacob Waddey in 1822. In 1832 he bought a tract of land on the Elkington proprty, known as Mill Quarter, to build his house, Cessford. He used the land to grow corn and oats and owned several enslaved people. In 1835, he fathered a child with one of his slaves, Mary Edney, named Frances Ellen Ker. Ker was named the administrator of Mary R. Floyd's estate after her death in 1842. Ker became the guardian of Mary's only child, Ellen Floyd. He worked to settle Mary's estate before passing away in 1847, a few months after his wife Mary died. His son George was named the administrator of his estate and the guardian of his sons James, Severn Parker, and Abel Upshur Ker, as well as Ellen Floyd. |
